Advancing Research for Children with Rare Rheumatic Diseases
When we think of childhood illnesses, many people don’t realize that over 25,000 children in Canada live with serious rheumatic conditions such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), lupus, and other inflammatory autoimmune diseases. These are not just aches and pains — they are complex, lifelong conditions that affect every aspect of a child’s life, from daily mobility to long-term health.
At the forefront of care and innovation is Dr. Lori Tucker, head of the Division of Rheumatology at BC Children’s Hospital. Leading a dedicated team, Dr. Tucker treats over 1,200 children and youth each year with a holistic, multidisciplinary approach that goes beyond managing symptoms. Her team is committed to supporting both patients and their families through these challenging diagnoses, all while advancing research that paves the way for better treatments and outcomes.
Your support will go directly to the BC Children's Hospital Rheumatology Research Endowment Fund, empowering groundbreaking research that enhances care and leads to long-term improvements in children’s health. Together, we can take a stand and create a future where all children have the chance to thrive free from the burden of these lifelong diseases.
